2014-2015 Alta Track Athlete of the Year

8th place and 1st in age division at 2014 Jupiter Peak Steeplechase (16 mile La Sportiva championship race) time of 2:02:47. Sprained my ankle with a mile left, hobbled to the finish as fast as I could.

3rd place and 1st in age division at the 2015 Leadville Heavy Half, a 15.5 mile course that started at over 10,000 ft and had over 4500 meet elevation gain, tons of shifty rocky areas, ice, snow, rivers, and an out and back with 500+ runners on a narrow path at the top. I ran 2:13:09 and beat a guy from the Junior National Mountain Running team.

Short-Term Running Goals:

Run more and stay healthy

Run Saint George Marathon in under 2:50:00 in October

Long-Term Running Goals:

Keep running

Keep breaking 5:00 in the mile at least once per year

Run the Boston Marathon at least once

Do Spartan again and finish well, without burning or spraining something

I ran for Alta high school and was trained by Coach Murphy, he is a great coach, one of the best there is. Served an lds mission in Montreal Canada. I ran for Southern Utah University for a year or two. Working out on my own is more fun, and I can be lazy. I still love running and plan on doing it as long as I can. I will graduate suu with a degree in psychology, after which I plan on getting my a Masters or PhD in industrial organizational psychology or going to law school.

Ran a few miles trying to prepare just a little for my annual race next week. I'm not nearly in the shape I was in a few months ago, weaker, slower, and much less endurance. But I've been going to the gym about 2 times each week and have retained a good amount of strength anyways, although I've been having to go easy on the bench. I've been doing a little running. Not nearly enough though, I'd say from September until now I've probably averaged about 4-5 miles per week on 1 or 2 runs per week. My goal for this 5k is basically keep in the 17:00 range and finish top 10. I will probably run just under 6:00 pace per mile on the first half because its uphill and then I will hopefully increase my pace on the way back and maybe average about 5:40. With a strong kick that should be enough to stay under 18:00. Not exactly the shape I was in 2 years ago for this race, but too late to change that. Today I ran 6:40 pace for the first 2 miles and finished with a 5:50 mile, my legs felt a little weak that last mile so I will try and run a few more times before the race. My goal going forward is to run 15-25 miles per week and run 3-5 times a week. I'd love to get up to about 10 miles on some of thosr runs so I can build endurance too.
